HOPWOOD Middle School defeated Mount Carmel School in the finale of the 2019-2020 PSS NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League on Wednesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.

It was Rizza Relucio who drew first blood for Hopwood in the first minute mark. MCS’ defense was no match against Relucio as she again found herself through MCS’ wall to connect with another goal. MCS was quite overwhelmed as Hopwood scored two more goals courtesy of Jullie Ann Capayas and Bianca Mangulabnan.

MCS’ Andrei Chavez managed to break through Hopwood’s defense to score a goal, but it wasn’t enough as Hopwood remained on top at the end of the first half, 4-1.

In the second half, Hopwood made quick turns with Hix Tamia scoring her team’s fifth goal. MCS’ Chavez retaliated at the 52nd minute mark and connected again 14 minutes later. Both teams then battled in the last minutes of play with Hopwood’s Mary Joy Aniana notching a goal at the 70th mark en route to a Hilitai victory, 7-3.

Earlier, in the battle for third place, Saipan International School’s Martha Culp and Savita Sikkel scored two goals to open the first half. Francisco M. Sablan Middle School’s Summer Manahane scored a goal in the last minute of the first half but SIS was still ahead, 2-1.

SIS, however, remained scoreless throughout the second half as FMS’ Manahane and Elayada notched a total of five goals. FMS outlasted SIS, 6-2, to win third place in the 2019-2020 PSS NMIFA Interscholastic Soccer League.
