MOUNT Carmel School Class of 2020 graduate Chioni Dela Cruz wants to play basketball in college.

Despite the ongoing Covid-19 disruption, Dela Cruz, a shooting guard for the MCS Knights and the NMI Rollers Basketball Association, aims to stay on the path of sports and will continue to train for collegiate basketball. Dela Cruz will be attending Northern Marianas College for his associate degree, which is equivalent to two years. “Now’s not the time to leave,” he said. While on island, he wants to continue to seek his full potential in the sport of basketball.

Dela Cruz may not be a towering presence on the court, but his basketball skills are varied. “He’s talented, although he has a lot to work on if he wants to compete at a higher level,” said his coach, Joe Diaz. “I admire his determination and work ethic. His skills are his advantage. He just needs to put on some weight,” the coach added.
