Missile-Toe beats All Set to win volleyball title

MISSILE-TOE prevailed against All Set in the men’s division of the Agape Christmas Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at the Agape Christian School Gym.

To reach the finals, Missile-Toe had to beat We Will Deck Your Halls in the semifinals.

We Will Deck Your Halls’ Logan Jon Mister and Kimo Olopai led their team in the first set, which they won 25-19.

In the second set, Missile-Toe siblings Enyang and Enhong Pang found their rhythm and led their team to a 25-20 triumph.

In the third and deciding set of the match, both teams fought aggressively, but Missile-Toe led by Enhong Pang proved to be the steadier squad as they clinched a 17-15 victory.

In the other semifinal game, Bryan Charlson, Jeff Riman, Riel Paynor, and PJay Sandoval led All Set against The Young and Restless to win 25-15, 25-20.

In the title game, Missile-Toe played aggressively in the first canto, but All Set’s Jericho Castro, Riel Paynor, and Jeff Riman could not be denied as their team took the first set, 25-19.

In the second set, All Set’s defense crumbled as Missile-Toe’s Enhong Pang, Jason Wang, and Dawei Cang went on a rampage to take the second set, 25-16.

In the deciding set, All Set’s Jericho Castro, Bryan Charlson, PJay Sandoval, and Riel Paynor worked hard to defend against the booming spikes of Enhong Pang. Dawei Cang and Enyang Pang also chipped in as Missile-Toe notched a 15-12 victory.

The tournament champion received a $150 cash prize, gift certificates, medals, and a trophy.

Enyang Pang, one of the tournament organizers, is already looking forward to next year’s event.

“It seems that the volleyball community in Saipan is getting bigger. A tournament like this is one way to get more people interested in volleyball,” he added.

In the women’s division, Sweet Digs defeated the Itsy Bitsy Spikers to win the title on Saturday at the Agape Christian School Gym.
