SAIPAN670 is participating in Guam Mini Tournament, a “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang” video competition, and is on its way up the ladder after dominating the preliminary round on Saturday.

Mobile Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena game in which two opposing teams of five fight to reach and destroy the enemy base while defending their own.

Team captain Russel Cruz, along with husband and wife Erwin and Krystel Encinares, Pearl Bermudez, Aldrich Delos Santos and Gelo Rabe, found out about the tournament about two weeks prior to its kickoff on Saturday. But they still managed to power their way through their opponent, X4CE, in a best-of-three format 33-4, 30-13.

"On July 17th,” Cruz said, “it started when my friend told me that Guam was hosting a ML mini tournament and they invited me to join the local team."

The team members made sure they were organized with clearly defined roles. "We each play a certain role,” Cruz said. “We practiced for two weeks just to make sure we got the right rotation and have good communication skills with each other."

In the first match Cruz was the star of the show as his chosen hero X Borg was a force to be reckoned with. X Borg's ability to sustain damage and take crowd control was the key to Saipan670's victory as he opened up Pearl Bermudez' markman hero Hanabi and mage Vale to grab eight kills apiece while Cruz racked up a total of 12 kills with 18 assists to be crowned MVP.

The Saipan gamers left their opponents in the dust, taking victory with ease at 33-4. "During our first game we were so pressured because it was our very first time to join a tournament,” Cruz said. “But after the first few kills, we found our comfort with our heroes, which gave us the go-ahead to finish with the win."

In the second match Saipan670 had a tougher battle as the opposing team adjusted its strategy. Cruz continued with hero X Borg and led the team's attack despite the lower rate of kills. Fortunately, the rest of the Saipan team stepped up and kept their opponents at bay en route to a blowout victory, 30-13.

The Saipan team’s semifinal opponent is Team Guam. If victorious, Saipan670 will head to the finals of the Guam Mini Tournament.
