THE Saipan Paddling Club is trying to help keep the community healthy by hosting a 5k Virtual Fun Run as part of SPC’s fundraising efforts.

The event started on Oct. 25, and participants have until the 30th to win first place.

Participants are required to like and follow SPC on Instagram and Facebook as well as tag the club in their photos and videos.

Participants can complete the run from the comfort of their home, at the beach, at American Memorial Park, and beyond.

Costumes are optional.

"In September of 2019, SPC held our first annual SPC 5k Sunset Run and it was a huge success,” said SPC community coordinator Lorenza Aldan.  “The pandemic, like a lot of things, has challenged the way we think about hosting traditional events. This year, the club needed to strategize a way to still promote healthy living through exercise while being mindful of the health and well-being of our community."

She added, "A Virtual Fun Run is a relatively new concept to us, but a great way to still engage people while following all Covid-19 mandates. Our event allows people to complete the run at a convenient time and location stress- and worry-free."

SPC wants all types of runners to join, and the added touch of costumes will make the event fun for all ages, Aldan said.

"The pandemic has really emphasized the need to prioritize our health which is why the club decided to level the playing field for people coming from all backgrounds of exercise whether it be beginners or competitive athletes,” she added. “By having more of a spirited contest, we hope to give some light and happiness to an otherwise uncertain time."
