(Press Release) — On Saturday March 14, the NMI Democratic Party will host its 2nd presidential caucus on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. To participate in this event you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the Northern Mariana Islands, 18 years of age or eligible to vote on or before Nov 3, 2020.

Caucus members on Saipan, Tinian and Rota will be able to visit the designated caucus voting sites, register to vote if they haven’t already, register with the party, and cast votes for their Democratic presidential candidate of choice.

As of March 6, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont are the final presidential candidates for the NMI caucus.

The caucus will be held on Saipan at the World Resort’s Royal Taga Ballroom, with simultaneous sub-caucuses at the following locations:

• Northern Marianas College Rota Center Room 82 - VTC Room

• Northern Marianas College Tinian Center Room C - VTC Room

Doors will open at 5 p.m. with the doors closing for the caucuses to begin promptly at 6 p.m.

“There is no better time to get involved in politics and we’re excited to witness such positive feedback from members of the community, college students, and future voters. They’ve seen the historic voter turnout across the country in last week’s Super Tuesday and I agree — it’s time to get on board. Although we cannot vote for president of the United States we do have a say in the nominee with our caucus event and I encourage our community to show up and participate,” said Nola Kileleman Hix, the NMI Democratic Party chairwoman.

“Caucus participants are in for show because not only am I a proud Democrat but I am the party’s chairwoman. I put ‘the party in party’ and we’ll have tons of amazing giveaways and other caucus activities for participants to enjoy. It’s such a sensitive time with political issues that are beyond our control, but we can control the narrative. Don’t hate — participate, and as former President Obama used to say Don’t boo — vote!”

The NMI Democratic Party is also seeking volunteers on Saipan, Tinian and Rota for this Saturday’s caucus activities. Volunteers are needed to assist with caucus registration, ballot access, ballot tabulation, voter file registry, and other necessary duties. Those interested can text the word VOLUNTEER to 484-DEMS (3367) or visit the website to learn more and register as a volunteer today.
