(JKPL) —  For more than 28 years, the Joeten-Kiyu Public library has provided innovative and transformative library programs and services to meet the needs of our diverse and resilient community.

This summer, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library offers an amazing summer reading program for people of all ages to encourage them to read, engage in STEAM activities, explore new authors and genres, and discover the different types of materials the library offers.

The summer reading program is also a great way to encourage kids to keep reading when they aren’t going to school.

Research has shown that during summer vacation, students lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year resulting in what is called the “summer slide.”

Moreover, recent research has shown that children in 3rd to 5th grades also showed that students lost, on average, about 20% of their school-year gains in reading and 27% of their school-year gains in math during summer break. Younger children are prone to the most learning loss because they’re at a crucial stage in their development.

This summer, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we will offer an innovative and astounding adventure as we “Imagine Your Story” in our Package-to-Go! Each Package-to-Go includes books, more books, activities and supplies.

The 2020 Joeten-Kiyu Public Library summer reading theme is “Imagine Your Story.”
