The “he’s too smart,” “he takes to many risk,” “he can’t even use the gavel properly,” and “he’s too disrespectful” – and even “no woman is fit for this” and far worse four-lettered words too complex to combine into a meaningful sentence – statements have been, since the beginning of this year, reworded (intentionally ignoring use of euphemism) for the purpose of eliminating unsupported candidates from the minds of the registered voters. I have not qualms about these statements; however, when people begin inserting unsubstantiated lines amplified through a chain of very loose mouths that scream into unfiltered ears, I begin to get a little irritated.
Why can’t you, vying for the various government seats, simply talk about your individual selves and your plans? Why do you insist on employing the support of others to persuade voters to choose you? Why do you have to say things about other people? You all have the same goal – to provide service for the constituents. The only service you have provided these days is preparation for war. Palau is not at war.
If Palau was at war, each of you would be holed up somewhere and the citizens would be considered collateral damages.
Palau is not at war and you do not to fire any bullets at anybody – those who fired have missed their target and injured innocent bystanders. Give a little to make peace an essential part of your campaigns. Bring Palau together and let each person make a choice based on what you disclose about yourself – not others.
I have put plugs in my ears. I will vote for those who have spoken about themselves and their plans only. I do not want to hear about what others say about candidate so and so anymore. It has gotten too loud and extremely noisy. The words have become meaningless.
I am almost definite that loud speakers – Fender, BOSE, Kenwood, and notorious Palauans – will continually broadcast political platforms until 7:00 p.m. of November 4th of this year. After then, new leaders would be elected, suits would be filed, the national budget would be debated, the nations debt would be discussed, the price of fuel would not have fallen below $4, and you and I – if we are still breathing and in good hearing – would have to decide how to live together despite all that has been loudly said about our friends, immediate and extended family members (inclusive of relatives who lived during the age of dinosaurs), and our new found enemies.
Can you and I be at peace? Politicians, please lead the way – brings us peace first before anything else.
