Inkling: The talk we do

Whether the bashing comes as jokes or unintentional cracks that supposedly does not hurt anyone, I find them to be offensive in that whoever creates them has trampled on the essence of our culture with “Freedom of Speech.”

Freedom of Speech is, as far as I am concerned, one of those stipulated rights in our Constitution that is the most complicated and least understood. However, it is one that has been exercised to a point where it now clashes with good taste, common sense, and even the values that once bound families and clans together.Everyone, it seems, is free to say what he or she wants wherever and whenever; and things are falling apart.

And now that things are seemingly and reported to be falling apart, a great many of us have conceded to thinking and thinking and thinking. Some have resorted to speaking out loud on the thinks that we do – which is fine, but the speaking has

As a people we have spent far too much time thinking about the things we ought to do to make life better.I think – just a small think – we should stop the thinking.Thinking has led most us to develop speech directed at others in hope that they would do something – and then they get pissed off and say things that are little too big for our small ears.

You, I dare say, have been blessed. You were taught patience and courtesy. You have not uttered a word of detriment about others; rather, many have gone to stupendous lengths to say things on your behalf – even to a point of thinking for you. Some have said that you have immunity.

I must tell you, however, that you must take some time to hear the “free speech” that has been said and drawn from – too many words that say so very little that seem to take too much out of our self worth. The words said often encroach on established boundaries that protected us from destroying the ties that bound us together. You and I have become victims of the free speech wars. Our relatives, friends, and people we know have been peppered with uncalled for criticisms.Venomous words compiled into insinuative statements have been injected into the very fabric that holds us together – some of us have turned purple with anger.

I am sick of the free speech wars.It has done nothing except provoke animosity – most of which has recoiled for an opportune moment to spring.I hope that here and on you would not forced to say what you do not mean.Just in case, I ask that when you do have to say something let it be expressive, direct, and courteous.Still if you feel a need to use four-lettered words – the “#$#&*!” kind – a little euphemism would certainly be effective. Most important, please ensure that what you say falls on the right ears – some people are deaf while others simply enjoy expanding on your thoughts. Other than these, mean what you say and be considerate of others.
