An open letter to Congressman Kilili

DEAR Honorable Congressman,

I am among the contract workers who came to the CNMI from different countries, and we have been here for a long time.

We worked for companies and some of us were cheated by those companies. Some of us did not get our salaries, but they were never awarded any judgment by anyone, especially the CNMI Labor Department. We only received administrative orders from CNMI DOL.

We love the CNMI and that’s why we continue to stay here even during tough times. We are struggling to survive but no one wants to go back to their home country due to the corrupted life back home.

Since you became the CNMI’s U.S. congressman, all of us have a bright hope in our hearts.

You are always kind to us and you are the key to changing people’s lives. You have been successful in passing a bill for long-term residency for long-time guest workers who have been legally residing and working in the CNMI and have children who were born here before 2009. You also introduced H.R. 560 “to grant permanent status to certain Commonwealth-only Transitional Workers (CWs) and to foreign investors, who were originally admitted under Commonwealth immigration law.” Unfortunately that bill has not passed yet.

We respectfully request that you will continue to do your best to pass H.R. 560.

We came to the CNMI to live and work here,  and not to go to the mainland U.S. We came to this island to earn/save money then send some of our savings to our family members back home so they can have  a better life.

Please! Help us to stay here and work here and we will be very grateful.

We know it’s not impossible for you. Please re-introduce H.R. 560. We hope and pray that you will be successful. We hope you will always have good health and be blessed by God.
