Letter to the Editor: Bad situation

My friend worked for a private company for about four years, but he was removed due to the fact that he violated its policy. He was satisfied with the company’s decision, but according to him the company never issued him a copy of the company’s handbook, policy and procedures when he got hired.

The thing that bothered him the most was that he was accused of a wrongful act and he was summoned for a lawsuit in local court. My friend suffered a difficult and hardship situation. He went out looking for a good lawyer that would defend him from the accusations against him. Four years passed and his case never came to an end, and he spent so much money on it. A couple of months later his case finally came to an end when the plaintiff decided to dismiss the case with prejudice.

‘The lawyer told my friend that he could not  sue the company but he could sue the person who had put him into a hard and difficult situation. My friend then was so proud about the outcome of his case because truth and victory went to him. He would like to thank his lawyer for a job well done.

My friend did not get anything back to recover all his expenses but at least his case came to an end. I felt sorry for my friend because the company that sued him got the financial resources, unlike him who only worked for a living. My friend’s mother did not believe his son would commit the allegations against him and she was waiting for the case to come to an end, but the Lord took her away last year at the age of 82 years old and she never knew what had happened to her son’s case.

When the mother was still alive she told her son, “The Lord is not sleeping and he would guide you throughout your case; keep on praying and your prayers would be answered.”

My friend thanked the good Lord above for answering his prayers. He visited his mom at the cemetery and delivered the good news.

I, as a good friend, gave him  good advice to not let this situation get to him and to take it out of his head to release the pressure and to move on with his life and leave the past behind because it’s all over.

My friend mentioned to me that he would like to make one suggestion to our local justice system. He said if a plaintiff sues a defendant and later decides to drop or dismiss the case with prejudice, the plaintiff should pay the expenses of the defendant.

This policy should make a plaintiff think twice before pursuing a lawsuit.

In my friend’s case, he spent so much money on his case and when he got the victory he did not get anything back. It’s just like taking $5,000 of his money and flushing it down the toilet. Remember, money don’t grow on trees.

The other thing is that our court system should also look at the protection for the defendant  when a lawsuit occurs and does not go to trial.

Lastly, my friend’s last words is that he will follow what the Lord says, and that is to forgive the person who put him in this harsh situation, so when he dies the Lord would accept him into His kingdom.
