Letter to the Editor: Guam 112 years after negligence, reckless crises

That deliberate and unconscionable action extinguished the wholesome free market economy of the indigenous people of Guam.  This new buildup is similarly being done in an autocratic and imprudent manner, 66 years after the dignity and pride of our people were crushed.

The federal government’s prime constitutional responsibility is that of the defense of the country, but not by attacking its principles.  Americans on Guam are NOT FREE.  Democracy, equality, and justice are lacking.  Without them, the conditions are like those of a third world country, draining the national treasury for all the wrong reasons.

The people of Guam know only being occupied by foreign powers. We were abandoned in WWII, and betrayed.  People are muted by design — no voice.  They are forced to depend on handouts, the military, and the tourism economy, all of which are controlled by others.  The bleak situation in Guam is detrimental to humanity — a shame on America.

Obviously, the reason for the takeover from Spain was not to free Guam’s indigenous people from oppressive control.  Rather, it was to replace a declining super power with another that was rising.  And at major cost to the nation, productive jobs of the people were replaced by non- productive jobs of the government.

Brainwashed

America’s rose to global power with the 1803 “Louisiana Purchase” together with the “Manifest Destiny” mindset, and assured by the 1823 “Monroe Doctrine.”

The stage was set for politicians to secretly mandate policies for imperialistic expansion touted as necessary or benevolent.  Mainstream media took a back seat to this day, swallowing the national propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

Like morality, security cannot be compromised, but politicians grew the government beyond any conceivable need, creating even a National Transportation Safety Board among many others.

Sixty-six years after WWII, the problem has compounded with the passage of time and with more counterproductive policies.  Solutions are now fragmented.

When the Pentagon, CIA, and FBI failed to keep America safe in 2001, Washington inflated the government further by creating the Department of Homeland Security — the mother of all cover-ups and a crowning achievement of restrictions.  “Wake-up calls” including the 9-11 attacks were ignored by the politicians, mainstream media, and the American public.

Washington must correct its official mistakes so that America can truly move forward again.  Guam and its people can be the tip of the spear without being held hostage, their inalienable rights denied.

For safety, efficiency, and “green Guam” this military buildup must include the “Spine Highway.”  For the love of God, humanity, and country do the right thing by, of, and for the people.  No more secret meetings behind “closed doors” producing only discord.

The question is where is the coverage and the outrage of our journalists?  The politicians should not have circumscribed the inalienable rights of the people nor violated the Constitution, and the laws.
