After that meeting I asked for a follow up meeting at my residence the evening on Wednesday, July 29, to discuss certain issues intended for the Neighborhood Watch Program.
Only three showed up and we discussed the purpose of the gathering. I had made up the agenda for the meeting and plan about what would really be our first target project and approach in the hope that our Dandan residents and fellow neighbors would appreciate to see what was being done within our community.
We feel that the first target project in our community is to restore back the newly completed Dandan Children’s Park that was abandoned in its entirety. The park itself has been forgotten, ignored and no one takes responsibility for this very nice playground that the community can make good use of.
The park has been vandalized beyond anyone’s imagination and the thieves got away with all the hose bits, damaged all the lighting fixtures, stole the copper wire that was to light up the park and graffiti was all over the concrete tables and benches.
They broke all the glass blocks and the glass doors of the two very nice decent restrooms provided for the park user.
The children’s playground overgrown with grass and ivy gourd, a standard basketball court full of graffiti and parking stalls used as a dumping ground for trash.
The park was supposed to be for family gatherings, birthday parties, picnics, other outings and so forth.
Ladies and gentlemen, it was very disappointing to see how much damage had been done to the park. Not to mention the, waste of our hard-earned tax money, the development and planning time of engineers and the efforts of those involved.
The good intention of the planners is for the community of Dandan to make good use of it, to enjoy a nice decent place for the kids to play around in the park.
We, the team of the Neighborhood Watch volunteers, would like to inform you that we have made some progress so far.
Please don’t be too disappointed as our volunteers are trying their very best to bring back the park to its original order. We have cleaned and cleared its surroundings, the parking lot, the basketball court and the benches and tables in the shades. It is now usable to a certain extend and for daytime only until we can get the power restored.
I want to express my sincerest profound heartfelt gratitude and SI YUUS MAASE and appreciation to my colleagues who spent some of their valuable precious time, commitment and dedication in helping out in our cleanup efforts to restore the park back to its original form.
KUDOS to you my fellow friends who helped out on these two occasions so far.
We’ll see you again this Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, 0800-1600 hrs.
