Blame it on whoever you want here in the CNMI, but if Homeland Security was actually ready there would not have been a delay. The regulations have not been released, no one has been hired and they are clearly not ready to take the keys to Immigration on June 1st.
Just a bit of advice from a 77 year old…look at the big picture and instead of blaming the governor or the Tans for the delay, understand that the U.S. was also unprepared for a June 1st takeover. Instead of making a huge mess for those who live here, they were smart enough to stop and realize that by taking the time to do this right, everyone will benefit.
I hope that you do not follow through with your threat to advertise the refugee status to those in China and Russia. We have enough issues here already and do not need even more chaos at a time when we are all just trying to figure out how to move forward instead of always looking back.
The law is the law, federalization is here and we all know it. No one can change it…not you or me, not the governor and not any business person or company.
What we all can do is try to do what’s best for the commonwealth and not let anger or disappointment over what’s happened in the past cloud our actions now. What’s done is done and trying to turn the clock back will not make things change. It’s not easy to practice this, I’ll admit it. What each of us can do is look at the past and work together to make the necessary changes for the future. This philosophy has helped me to live a very happy 77 years and I highly recommend it.
