For example, only on Saipan could there be a jail situated right next to a high school. My high school, actually.
But I wrote this editorial to talk about a few, more serious issues which I thought of. I mean, I know Saipan is small and everything, but how can such a small island have such big problems?
Saipan is my home. I was born here, and I was raised here, and I have been here my whole life. I belong here, and I am full Chamorro, and I am proud of being from this island.
Here are a few things I am ashamed of, though:
Our governor is considering “spending money we don’t have” into fueling a lawsuit which we, the CNMI, could never win.
Where does he expect to get that money from, anyway?
Do we have that money to waste?
Please, sir, if you are reading this, if you don’t consider the lawsuit, I will drop the snide insults in the editorials.
I believe the CNMI should not have to pay because our biggest representative leapt before he looked. I see no problem, I would even consider it brave, if you would admit defeat now, rather than later, in a courtroom full of people, and having to walk away with your tail between your legs and the realization that you just wasted us another couple thousand dollars.
What else in this island of troubles could I be ashamed of?
How about our Legislature?
To all of my uncles and aunties up there, I am sorry if you find me disrespectful for saying this. This is not your time or your place. The people elected you to be our voice, and represent our ideals and values, and improve the way things are around here. Were you elected to disappoint us? What are you doing up there? Different people voted for you to represent them. Naturally, it is understandable that you would have different views, right? So really, you’re not supposed to agree on every little thing. AND if there is one black sheep up there who dare go against your ideas, well…that’s why she was elected right? Outside, she is no different from you. She was elected there the same way you were. She does have different ideas from the rest, though, so don’t try to turn against her or try to get her to jump on the bandwagon, or as you guys say it, “the train.” The Legislature is not made of clones, so why make such a big fuss if one person has a different take on things? You don’t have to jump on the same train. Just arrive at the same place. Peacefully. Put a “No Bitching Allowed” sign up there if you have to, and start cooperating like adults, please.
I am 16 years old; I don’t even have a 2 in the first digit of my age so I shouldn’t even have to be telling you guys not to bring your drama to the articles. Keep it in the editorials. And I know you’re probably ashamed of me, for being so blunt and disrespectful to you, but hey, at least now you know it goes both ways.
