Letter to the Editor: Please investigate Cape Airlines safety record

CPA should call on the FAA or NTSB to investigate Cape Airlines before a major accident happens. This is about the 5th time a mechanical problem has occurred within the last two months. Their flights kept getting delayed or canceled. How old are the airplanes? How safe is it to fly with Cape Air? Continental’s spokesperson needs to explain this incident. Please look into this quickly.

Asked for comment, Koji Nagata, Asia/Pacific communications of United/Continental Airlines, provided this statement to the Variety on Thursday: “On Sunday, April 10, 2011, Continental Connection partner Cape Air  experienced a problem with a panel on part of the wing with its aircraft  en route from Guam to Saipan. The pilots took appropriate measures and landed the aircraft safely on Saipan. As a precaution only and following procedure, the pilots requested the Saipan airport to have emergency equipment on site during the landing. All passengers arrived safely. Cape Air is currently investigating the issue.”
