The solution to this problem is very simple: Put all government agencies on pre-paid meters. End of problem.
Let’s not kid ourselves. We residential customers have done everything we can to conserve power, but to this day, we still see government agencies with their air cons cranked so high that their employees are forced to wear sweaters. This is ridiculous. We are ISLANDERS. Air cons are a luxury item, not a necessity.
Let’s avert these rolling blackouts by spreading fairness across the board. If my power gets cut because I’m a day late on paying my power bill, then please do the same for all government agencies. Residential customers should no longer subsidize for the government’s failure to pay their power bills on time.
In closing, I would like to thank CUC Executive Director Abe Malae and the entire CUC crew for keeping the power on. The rolling blackouts must be averted at all costs, and if pre-paid meters are not possible, then I sincerely hope Governor Fitial gives CUC the power and authority to cut every government entity who fails to pay on time.
