Letter to the Editor: Setting the record straight

Number 1: I am not on anyone’s payroll regarding my letters and articles to the media in the CNMI.  Fitial never paid me for what I submitted to the media prior to becoming governor.  Any letter or article I produced during the time I was under contract was initiated on my own.

Number 2: I produced two deliverables for the $48K contract I had with the CNMI government.

Number 3: My heritage is Chamorro which goes back several generations in the Mariana Islands. I have relatives in both Guam and the CNMI.  Regardless of what you think, I truly care about the island community and especially those with island heritage.

Number 4: I was born in the United States but I lived in the Marianas when I was young. To suggest I have never set foot there is totally inaccurate.

Number 5: Your article on Aug. 12 titled “Wetback Labor” not “Wet back” was a race card gesture.  To insinuate that I am the one using the race card is preposterous.

Number 6:  I was in the CNMI for one week prior to and during the Fitial     inauguration in January 2006.  The flight to the CNMI and back to California was not funded by Fitial.  Thus, the insinuation that the “freebie luxury flight was paid for by the Fitial administration” is unfounded and categorically inaccurate.

Number 7: I am not Holani Smith and I don’t espouse ghost-writing.

With respect to my style of writing, I find it interesting that on the one hand you consider it rambling, buffoonery, and flowery, but on the other hand you appear to take the time to read what I produce.  From my vantage point, I consider that a complete paradox.

I strongly recommend that before you submit anything to the media in the CNMI, or any place for that matter, you should take the time to do your homework.  Otherwise, people might think you might be going off half-cocked with your writing utensil.  We wouldn’t want that now would we?
