It makes me smile when I go to a restaurant and hear someone order for french fries, pizza with extra cheese, fried chicken and a diet soda. We tend to think that we can compensate the wrong by doing a little bit of right. Don’t we wish life is just a simple accounting where if the debit equals the credit, we’re almost sure that the entry is correct?
The irony of our human nature is that we expect to receive without giving. For example, we don’t want our parents to control us but we expect them to support us. We take people into our family and expect them to serve but we treat them as inferior to us. We don’t want them to be equal with us. They cannot have more than what we have.
It makes me wonder most of the time if CNMI realizes how blessed she is to be politically connected with Uncle Sam. Talk about the richest and most influential country in the world. Instead of antagonizing Uncle Sam, wouldn’t it be better if you ask him to help the ailing CNMI? And instead of asking alms from your neighbors, how hard is it to ask your father to help you? Remember the lesson of the prodigal son?
On another note, you have guest workers who are already there. Richer countries like Canada have already taken away a good number of your guest workers. Keep the ones that are still there. After all, they have stayed even during the bad times. By now, you realize that you need them as you try to turn the economy around. Reward them and make it worth for them.
God bless those who choose to take the path of righteousness. God bless the CNMI!
