Letter to the Editor: The Guam people’s condition is worsening

Many people on this island need help but they are not getting it.

There seems to be a focus on a bond issue that some feel needs to be done. It seems to be the only thing the administration is focused on. Yes, there are taxpayers who need to have their refunds paid to them. But there are so many others who are not expecting refunds who need help, and there is no one paying any attention to them. There are COLA payments as well and the list goes on and on.

We have a tremendous amount of energy being placed upon efforts to get those owed tax refunds their money, but the only issue this government seems to be concentrating on is making the island far less than it is and can be. Last year, the people made a selection for our leadership. Let’s not help them regret the decision.

I have faith that if we were to go out and collect the monies outstanding from those individuals or companies who owe money to the treasury, the shortage we are now facing, and have been facing for some time, would disappear. The government just needs to go out and start collecting what is owed.

Millions more can be collected each year, but the people at the tax department are not going out and finding those delinquent tax payers.
