Historically, the chances of independent and third-party candidates have always been rigged to prevent them from “winning.”
The coolest function of such a candidate is to introduce substantiated ideas, to induce long awaited change, and to raise the bar.
Within this context, Mr. Juan Tudela Lizama’s campaign is extremely effective. It is where the degree of his competency is demonstrated. While candidates from major parties tend to focus on the politics of exclusion, Mr. Lizama will uphold his belief in the politics of inclusion.
Historians have frequently interpreted Federalist No. 10 to imply that the Founding Fathers of the United States intended the government to be nonpartisan. As political parties had interests which were adverse to the rights of citizens and to the general welfare of the nation, the Founding Fathers preferred a nonpartisan attitude and form of representation.
The CNMI has had friends and foes among the U.S. Democrat and U.S. Republican caucuses. To say that using the name of a major party will somehow get doors to open, and red carpet rolled out in D.C. is just plain false and misleading.
The CNMI delegate must be able to work BOTH sides of the party fence to get things done. He needs to befriend everyone. This is especially true since the delegate does not have a vote. The delegate must be the Switzerland of diplomats, highly competent and industrious. An independent candidate like Juan Tudela Lizama will not be beholden to a party apparatus that got him elected, and will not be subjected to party restrictions on how to represent the CNMI. Mr. Lizama can therefore be flexible and profoundly represent his constituents.
It is obvious that self-aggrandizement and promise-making inherent in partisan candidates will be minimized with an independent candidate like Juan Tudela Lizama.
As your independent candidate, Mr. Juan Tudela Lizama will make decisions according to his conscience and not according to supporting parties or lobbies.
He will become our strong legal advocate in the U.S. Congress. His strong legal competency is an assurance.
When elected, Mr. Juan Tudela Lizama will have a choice of aligning with the majority U.S. Democratic caucus. He will not be prevented either to join the Republican caucus. His expertise in law is an assurance that what he will have presented to the committee or members will be well substantiated and understood by members as complete and thorough. He is a lawyer himself, and his views on issues will be comparable with his other colleagues who are also mostly lawyers.
We need a delegate like Juan Tudela Lizama who share our dreams and who do not sell us short. Or sell us out! Do not throw your vote away on a candidate who does not share your dreams, who is not committed to bring your dreams into reality! Go for it! It is the only practical thing to do because if we don’t go for it, we will never get what we need, what we want, what we are dreaming for. Hey, it just makes sense…right? So go and vote for the BEST and highly competent candidate who will best represent us.
