Recent public outcry concerning the power pole installation project in Marpi, Saipan prompts this letter to enlist government consideration in reevaluating plans to install those power poles. SCC further requests all alternative energy supply options be evaluated and addressed before the Marpi project continues.
SCC requests and encourages public hearings be held to address all the above concerns before proceeding with the power pole installation in Marpi, Saipan.
SCC calls upon the CNMI administration, its Marianas Visitors Authority and appropriate government regulatory offices, the CNMI Legislature and the residents of the CNMI to decide and permanently designate an area in the Marpi Forest where there shall never be allowed power pole installation and/or other blights upon the Marpi Forest’s natural and unspoiled beauty for future generations.
Outside the current controversy surrounding the ongoing power pole installation project in Marpi, an effort toward this permanent designation SCC deems critical to our future as an economy, a community and a global member with respect for the earth we live upon.
