Letter to the Editor: To the people of the commonwealth

Well over 30 years we the voters had been made to believe that in order to run for the highest seat, or any seat in public office, one must posses politics by birth or years of political background to include possessing educational credentials like a Ph.D. master’s, or bachelor’s degree in business administration or political science.

Please correct me if I’m mistaken when I say that the very reason we are all in the predicament we face today is because of the creations of such politicians.

A wise old man once told me that 90 percent of people who posses a high school diploma with years of hands-on experience, hard work, determination, commitment and thorough knowledge in the field they’re in will prevail over the super-educated bookworm each time they are put to the test.

Why? The heart of a common, ordinary person has more sensitivity, understanding and care for the suffering of his fellow citizens, and is 10 times more committed and determined to achieve a common goal for the good of the people.

The 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was born on Feb. 12, 1809 in a one-room log cabin on a 348-acre lot. He had no formal education but was largely self-educated and an avid reader, a local talented wrestler and skilled with an ax.

He guided his country through the most devastating experience in its national history — the CIVIL WAR. Abraham Lincoln is considered by many historians to have been the greatest American president.

Remember my fellow citizens, that 99 percent of the time a penny is what saves you.
