Letter to the Editor: Very misleading title

I would like to clarify that the CNMI Zoning Board did not approve the construction of a warehouse at their regular meeting on April 7, 2011.

I went into great detail during my presentation of that case to explain that the only thing before the board was the rezoning of property.  To build a warehouse the applicants will need to undergo a three step process.

1. The Zoning Board must officially recommend the requested rezoning (“Village Residential” to “Village Commercial”) to the Legislature.

2. The Legislature must approve the recommended rezoning with legislation.

3. The applicants must come back to the Zoning Board and request a conditional use permit.

The Zoning Board did not approve the construction of a warehouse at their regular meeting on April 7, 2011 and the title of this article is very misleading.  The public should know that the warehouse is not a “done deal.”  The Zoning Office would be very appreciative if you would publish a correction so that your readers understand that approval of warehouse construction must still come before the Zoning Board.
