At one corner of the room, a girl was trying to be discreet while she pushed the contents of her plate around. She couldn’t eat onions, garlic, carrots, cabbage, hotdogs, spam and a lot of the things that were mixed with the bihon guisado, a noodle dish, she forked from the buffet table. She also wasn’t into ground meat, shrimp, lobster, crabs and everything others couldn’t have had enough of.
Buffet meals are better because she can pick what she liked, but dinners and lunches are the worst because she will be forced to eat or show that she enjoyed the food so as not to offend the host.
Say that she was invited to dinner and the host spent so much time preparing the food. Imagine her predicament upon seeing the table laden with large lobsters, sumptuous shrimp and other seafood dishes — things she didn’t want eat.
Her host would think he was offering her the best — but she would rather run away and hide.
When the subject of food comes up, there is always something each individual cannot bear to eat.
One man’s favorite food may cause another man to shudder with distaste. There are individuals who can survive on vegetables for the rest of their lives, while others cannot bear the thought of allowing a piece of steamed okra slither down their throats.
Picky eating is common among children, but thousands of adult individuals can be classified as picky eaters, too.
There are foods that used to be your favorite, until something drastic happens that makes you ban them from your list forever. There are also some foods whose color, texture or shape hold no appeal for you even though you have not even tried them.
Picky adults have one advantage over picky children. If you’re an adult and you won’t eat something on your plate, you don’t have a parent who will coax, cajole, convince and short of forcing you to eat “because it’s good for you.”
But if you think you’re the pickiest eater in the world, you’re wrong.
Eating is a social thing in our culture, wherever you are. It is the center of gatherings and functions.
Picky eating may affect your relationships and social growth. If you have so many items on your banned food list, you won’t be looking forward attending parties. If you love to eat one particular food which your partner absolutely hates, it can be a big issue.

Featured on the Food Network Channel, the Web site has a growing membership and it is now aiming to get the attention of the medical community so a treatment method can devised for this “disorder.”
