Artwork depicts healthy lifestyles

The rows of colorful posters mounted on make-shift walls dominated the first Health and Wellness Fair at the Civic Center in Susupe last Saturday. They were submitted by almost 300 students from Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

The children poured their artistic abilities on sheets of 11 x 17 paper to convey their interpretations of the poster-making contest theme, “Eat Better. Play Harder. Live Healthier. Learn Easier. Wellness is a Way of Life!”

Susan Marchitti of Glimpses and Beach Road Magazine, the fair organizer, said they were overwhelmed by the huge number of artwork submitted for the contest.

“We are very happy that children are taking the challenge of having healthy lifestyles seriously,” Marchitti said.

Judging was not that easy but after much deliberation, the six winners were finally chosen — three each from two categories.

Winners for the 11 years old and under division were Angelica Narvaez, first place with 26 points; Seung Yeon Han, second place with 24 points; and Michelle Palacios, third place with 21 points.

For the 12 years old and over category, the winners were Janet Estrellado, first place with 34 points; Dowen Jocson, second place with 32 points; and Josie Santos, third place with 26 points. The winners were given various prizes.

“We would like to thank all the students who participated in the poster-making contest. You helped create a big impact on the community with your art, and your suggestions on how to have healthy lifestyles,” Marchitti said.
