ALTHOUGH the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library has already begun its Children’s Summer Reading Program, parents can still register their children to take part in the activities.

“We are open [to registrants] until all slots are filled up,” said Omar Manacop, the systems librarian for JKPL.

The program is divided into two sessions: Session A for children six to eight years old, and Session B for children nine to 12 years old.

Manacop said the maximum number of participants per session is 40.

Children must be library card holders to be able to register.  The library’s phone number is (670) 235-7322/7323. Library staff will assist parents with registering their child for the program and/or a library card.

According to the Children’s Summer Reading Program’s official schedule, children will take part in numerous activities, projects, field trips and much more.

On Friday, June 9, participants will attend a field trip to the DCCA Guma Higai in Susupe, across from the library, to visit traditional canoe builders working under Master Carver Tony Pialug.

Other fun activities include lifesize paintings, a giant floor crossword puzzle, a computer class, and  daily reading challenges. A full schedule is available at the library.

Participant drop off is 8:15 a.m. and parents must sign in their children with library staff.

Program activities take place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with pickup occurring from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

The program’s first week of activities will conclude on Friday, June 9. The second week of activities will begin Monday, June 13, and end on Friday, June 16.
