“My mission as an educator is simple, and that is to teach, respect and love,” said Mrs. Leilani Bermudes Iramk, a Marianas High School Language Arts Teacher.
“I always wanted to become a teacher for as long as I could remember, but never really knew how hard a job it really was until I first started three years ago. It is something that brings me great pleasure, especially when a student tells you at the end of the school year that they will miss you during the summer,” she said.
Kagman High School principal Alfred Ada said he enjoys helping students understand complex issues.
“Truly, I want to teach and catch as many ‘aha’ moments from students. I get a kick out of students when they don’t understand something and I do all I can to make it comprehensible,” he said.
He says his mission as an educator is that all students could learn and become successful. “Begin thinking what you want to become after high school. Envision your future life and plan it now. Before you know it, it will be graduation time,” he added.
Ada continued to advise students to use summer time to reflect on themselves.
“We are all good in one thing or another and I encourage all students to explore their talents and their strengths because if they embrace these gifts, they will be happy and will enjoy what they will be doing in life,” said Ada.
“The student will be successful and if they are passionate about something, the they have discovered their purpose in life,” he said.
Ada says there are many students at KHS who are talented.
“There are a lot of artists on campus waiting to be tapped on, singers, painters, theatrical gifted and even poetry writers and performers. I see this when I we have our quarterly def-poetry jam competition. Students come up on stage and express their feelings about anything. It’s amazing!” he said.
Iramk said students need to work hard.
“I encourage my students to do whatever it is that they want to do, but to bear in mind that they must be willing to work hard for what they want,” she added. “I believe that every teacher sets high expectations for all students. We all hope and sometimes pray that one day these students will understand why education is so important and why we must all work together.”
