Even before we set out for J’s Restaurant Middle Road branch for a very early dinner on Friday, I already knew that I was going to order Daing na Bangus with plain rice and tomatoes, and Finadene sauce, for $6.75.
Daing na Bangus, a favorite Filipino fish recipe is milkfish cut lengthwise, spread flat, and marinated in garlic, vinegar, salt and pepper and dried out in the sun. It is then fried and served. The bangus was too big for me to consume and I had to take the other half home.
Not so hungry, one of my buddies just ordered the $5.75 Chef Salad which was served in a huge bowl topped with ham, American cheese and hard boiled eggs. My other buddy ordered the lechon kawali, a Pinoy favorite for $7.50 which was served with plain rice and corn siding.
You can also go to J’s Restaurant in Beach Road, San Jose and still enjoy the same cuisine.
Dig into other delectable Pinoy dishes at J’s Restaurants such as beef caldereta, crispy pata, lumpiang Shanghai, marinated beef tapa, chicken or prawns chopseuy, pork or prawns sinigang, chicken tinola or Kadun Manuk, beef nilaga and the ever-popular bulalo, all at the range between $6.50 to $9.25 per serving.
Not into Pinoy food? Don’t worry because the Filipino menu at J’s Restaurants occupies only a small portion of the overall menu. Check it out for a full list of island favorites that will make you keep coming back for more.
If you’re crazy for steaks (and who is not?), J’s Restaurant serves a wide selection including New York steak, T-Bone steak and other steaks served with your choice of plain rice, mashed potatoes or French fries, and side dishes of corn or tossed salad. They also serve noodles and chasers, soup, salad, seafood, hearty sandwiches, hamburger stand and other favorites such as grilled or pork chops, pork adobo, canned tuna with onions, grilled chicken breast, sweet and sour pork and more delectable dishes.
Calorie watchers are not left out at J’s Restaurant as they can have their fill of the various vegetable dishes designed for them. The menu includes beef, chicken, or shrimp broccoli, and other vegetable dishes.
Cap your hearty meals with beverages such as Oolong or green tea, regular or diet sodas, iced coffee, fresh milk, fruit juices and more.
If you’re not hungry, J’s Restaurants provide the ideal place just hang out with friends over bottles or cans of beers.
J’s Restaurant on Middle Road opened in 1993 but the original J’s Restaurant on Beach Road was already open in the 1970s.
Both outlets has always been among our favorite hangouts whenever we feel hungry because it is one of those few 24-hour open eating places in the island where we don’t have to worry about what time it is.
J’s Restaurant accepts reservation and special orders. All major credits cards are accepted. For inquiries call 235-8640/41 at Gualo Rai, Middle Road branch, and Beach Road, San Jose branch at 234-6420.
