AN exciting new chapter is unfolding for Green Meadow School, a beloved educational institution that just celebrated its 24th anniversary this month. After humble beginnings operating out of a small family home over two decades ago, the school is now embarking on a major expansion by opening a brand new campus in the Chalan Kanoa area. This milestone represents not just physical growth, but a reaffirmation of Green Meadow’s commitment to providing exceptional, values-based education to the community. The tentative opening day for the 2024-2025 school year at the new location is August 12th, with enrollment registration currently open.

that have guided it from the start. Principal Milagros Songcuan emphatically stated, “GMS believes the Bible’s teachings and a well-structured curriculum are inseparable; this will never change and continue with every child that walks through our school’s doors.”
The school’s bedrock philosophy is encapsulated in the Bible verse Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” As Principal Songcuan elaborated, “Our school’s core belief is to nurture the whole child, imparting wisdom that will stay with them throughout their lives.”
Upholding this conviction requires a delicate balance of spiritual guidance and academic excellence. Green Meadow’s approach integrates Biblical principles into a comprehensive, structured curriculum designed to engage students’ minds while enriching their souls.
A skilled team of devoted educators
Principal Milagros Songcuan
Integral to successfully carrying out this holistic educational approach is Green Meadow’s roster of skilled, passionate teachers. “GMS is proud of their well-trained, experienced teachers,” Principal Mila proclaimed. “Several of our teachers have been a part of our team for many years, imparting their wisdom and methods to the newer faculty.”
Virginia Ogerio
One such veteran instructor is Virginia Ogerio, who has taught for over two decades. She expressed how “My teaching philosophy and GMS’ approach to education are alike as they are both centered on fostering children with positive and dynamic learning.” Ogerio believes wholeheartedly that “all students have their own ability to reach their goals in life. Nurturing students’ knowledge and skills by providing tools to make their goals achievable are important to me and Green Meadow.”
Salma Lapuz
Salma C. Lapuz, an elementary math teacher, echoed this sentiment. “As a math teacher, I focus on fostering an engaging environment where students can actively explore concepts, make connections, and develop problem-solving skills through hands-on learning,” she explained. “This approach aligns with Green Meadow’s commitment to holistic, inquiry-based instruction integrating real-world experiences.”
Facilities for enriching experiences
The new Chalan Kanoa campus will provide ample physical spaces and resources to facilitate Green Meadow’s comprehensive educational vision. “There is much planned,” Principal Songcuan shared excitedly. “Just to name a few – a science lab, computer lab, music room, library, large playground area, and a multipurpose room for extracurricular activities and events.”
This array of facilities will allow for engaging, interdisciplinary learning extending far beyond traditional classroom lessons. Students can explore diverse subjects hands-on, nurture creative talents, and cultivate physical and social development.
“The most frequent challenge GMS has faced is finding an appropriate space to hold activities like student competitions,” Principal Mila explained. “We’re thrilled that our new location could potentially serve as a host for these kinds of enriching events.”
Expanding community enrichment
More than just a new building, this campus represents an extensive opportunity for Green Meadow to expand its positive impact on Saipan’s families. As Principal Mila reflected, “The Sister Remedios Building is a piece of educational history here. We’re honored to carry on that legacy of bringing quality instruction to this community.”
She emphasized, “Green Meadow has always believed the earlier a child’s development is nurtured, the greater their potential for growth. Our students who progress through each program – daycare, preschool, elementary and middle school – internalize the school’s values of personal and academic excellence.”
Ultimately, the new Chalan Kanoa location will allow Green Meadow to provide families with a comprehensive educational journey tailored to each stage of a child’s development. From the earliest years through adolescence, students will be immersed in an environment fostering spiritual grounding, intellectual curiosity, and skills for lifelong success.
