Joeten-Kiyu Public Library open for limited services

EFFECTIVE Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library will be open for the following limited services: Curbside Pick-Up Service, Virtual Learning Resources, Free Wi-Fi in the Parking Lot, Outdoor Book Drop/Returns, Ask a Librarian, and Temporary Virtual Library Card Application. While the JKPL facility will be closed from Tuesday, December 7, 2021 to Saturday, December 18, 2021, JKPL will be open for the above-mentioned limited public services to ensure the health and safety of our patrons, and in compliance with Governor’s Memo GOV21-249: “Closure of non-essential government offices for the next 14 days” (December 5, 2021).

Curbside Pick-Up Services

Curbside service will continue to be provided for those who prefer to pick up their materials outside of the library. In order to alleviate traffic concerns, congregating of our patrons, and continue safe- distancing best practices, patrons are asked to call 235-7322/7323 (READ) from Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (tentative). Closed on holidays. There will be one staff member assigned to answer phones to assist with scheduling curbside pick-up of library materials by appointment only.

Curbside Pick-Up (by appointment only) Procedure:

1)  Place items on hold beginning Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Search the library’s online catalog at www.cnmilib.org or call the library to place holds on the item(s) you want. There is a temporary limit of 05 holds per valid library card. If you currently have more than 05 holds on your card, please call the library at 235-7322/7323 (READ) to speak to a staff person. You will receive a notification (by email, text message, or phone depending on your account preference) letting you know that you can call to schedule pickup.

2)  Pick up your items. All items will be checked out and bagged ahead of time. Each bag will have your holds slip stapled to it for identification. Have your library card ready and ID available. Library staff will be wearing masks and gloves, and we ask that you wear a mask and stay in your car. On a big piece of paper, please write your last name and library card number placed inside of front windshield. Please ensure it is legible to library staff.

Pickups at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library will take place via the parking lot. Pop your trunk or open a passenger window. Library staff will place your bag in your car.

Returning Books into the Book Drop

The library asks that all library materials continue to be returned in the book drop that is located outside of the main entrance as they will be placed in quarantine for a week prior to returning to regular shelves for circulation.

Library Materials Due During Closure Will Be Waived

Due dates for all library items have been extended to at least December 20, 2021. All books due during temporary closure of JKPL facility from Tuesday, December 6 to Saturday, December 18, 2021 will be waived. No fines will be accrued during this 2-week closure.

Free Temporary Library Card for Virtual Access Only

Effective Friday, December 10, 2021, JKPL will be issuing a virtual library card good for one month’s use of our virtual learning resources. Must be 6 years old and over with proof of mailing address and valid picture identification. Must contact JKPL via email to [email protected] to submit documentation and complete temporary library card application form online.

The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library the following research databases for the CNMI: Explora (Elementary School Databases), Explora (Middle and High School Databases), Consumer Health Complete, Novelist, Novelist K-8, and the Small Business Reference Center.

The JKPL provides the following Gale Cengage databases for CNMI: Gale General OneFile, Gale Business: Plan Builder, Gale Business: Entrepreneurship, Gale Health and Wellness, Gale Literature Resource Center, Gale Books and Authors, Gale Interactive: Science, National Geographic Magazine from 1888-Current, National Geographic: People, Animals and the World, National Geographic Kids, Gale In Context: Biography, Gale In Context: Environmental Studies, Gale In Context: Global Issues, Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints, Gale In Context: Science, and Gale In Context: World History.

• First Book Open E-Books: Open eBooks is a library containing thousands of popular and award-winning titles that are free for children from in-need communities.
