IF there was a hall of fame for beers that our taotao Marianas love, we all know that Budweiser products would be first ballot, no contest!
Open any ice chest around this island, close your eyes, and reach in. The chances are pretty high you’re pulling out a Budweiser, Bud Light, Busch, Busch Ice, or Michelob Ultra.
Reach into any cooler on this island, and chances are you’re pulling out a Bud product.
The Marianas is hot, hot, hot, and because of that we need the superior drinkability that only the King of Beers and his court offer.
According to MarPac resident manager Guy Pudney, staff maintain their products’ freshness by properly managing the temperature in their warehouse at 72 degrees and maintaining a “first in, first out” rotation of their products.
With today being International Beer Day, we called on the experts at MarPac and gave them a fun, lighthearted questionnaire about the ways adults can enjoy Budweiser and MarPac distributed brands today.
We wanted to know their answers to the following:
-
What are three MarPac brands we should have in our coolers when we go golfing?
-
What’s a great beer to pair with sashimi?
-
What’s your favorite beer to pair with tinalan katne (dried beef)?
-
Name your top three chesa of all time.
-
What’s your favorite MarPac distributed beer?
-
What is an underrated MarPac distributed product that people would enjoy?
-
Top beach to enjoy a beer?
International Beer Day is the perfect time to find your next favorite MarPac product.
For virtually everyone surveyed, the clear recommendation for golf beer was Michelob Ultra. Thomas Basa Jr., consumer sales manager; Jack Sanchez, tobacco sales representative; Crystal from front desk; James Lee, beverage sales manager; Jean Sablan, operation manager; Jeffrey Cabusora from accounting; and Heather from marketing all chimed in with that answer.
Other top answers include Bud Light, Cutwater Spirits canned cocktails, and Budweiser.
For question numeron dos, it seems we had a healthy distribution of answers as three of the eight said Bud Light goes hand in hand with sashimi. Elsewhere, Budweiser received two votes, as did Michelob. The last suggestion went to Japan with a Kirin Ichiban suggestion.
Meanwhile, tinalan katne and Budweiser seem to be a natural pair, as three of the eight voters suggested so. Michelob came in second with two votes, and one each for Bud Light, Kona Longboard, and Michelob AmberBock.
The responses for top chesas of all time had our inbox looking like a fiesta table.

For James Lee, he says you “just can’t go wrong” with grilled beef rib fingers, poke, and lumpia.
Jean Sablan is partial to sashimi, dried beef, and lechon. We love that last one, Jean.
Jeffrey Cabusora is bringing the grilled pork or chicken to the chesa table. Like Lee he also is a fan of poke, and adds adobo to his top choices.
Felipe Mendiola says bring the pika kelaguin, tinalan katne, and sashimi over. He specifically mentions that Kikkoman soy sauce should accompany his sashimi, so don’t forget it.
Elsewhere, the MarPac familia suggested all manners of tuna preparations—no surprise for islanders. Fresh deer kelaguin was also emphasized.
There were also some vegetarian options suggested from Heather: edamame, tater tots, and chips and guacamole.
The surveyed MarPac crew fall into three general camps when it comes to favorite MarPac distributed beer. Three of eight say Bud Light is the best. Two kneel for the King, and two say Michelob Ultra. Lone wolf Heather is a Goose Island IPA fan. An IPA will help wash down those tater tots, so we get where you’re coming from, Heather.
We hope readers show some love to the “underrated beers” mentioned by the MarPac staff. The crew say that Stella Artois, Rolling Rock, Kirin Ichiban, Cut Water, Michelob Amberbock, and OB Premier Pilsner are products you’d enjoy if given a shot.
Guy Pudney, second from right, and a few of the staff that took the survey.
As for the best beaches to enjoy a brew, the MarPac crew says Micro Beach is a top choice (of course). Obyan, with it’s serenity and cleanliness, is also highly recommended, as is San Roque Beach and San Antonio Beach.
So, what say you? How are you enjoying International Beer Day, and what would your answers be?
