MARIANAS High School celebrated its 55th anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 24, which also coincided with its Culture Day.

The occasion also marked the return of students from MHS’ sister school, Seisa High School from Japan.

MHS Principal Johnathan Aguon was pleased to have much to celebrate over the weekend.

“Not only are we celebrating the 55 years [of MHS], we’re also celebrating 37 years of partnership with our sister school in Japan,” Aguon said. “Their stay is short; however, we are still grateful that they’re able to make time to visit us and continue our partnership.”

Aguon said 150 Japanese students with 50 chaperones joined the Culture Day festivities at MHS.

“Before [the Covid-19 pandemic] they were coming to MHS just about every year. But with the onset of the pandemic, of course due to safety issues, the [program was] discontinued,” Aguon said.

He added that this is the first time that Japanese exchange students have visited MHS since 2019.

The Culture Day festivities on campus featured 30 canopies of MHS school clubs, Seisa High School students and community partners.

The graduating classes and culture clubs of MHS provided entertainment.

The public was also allowed on campus to celebrate with the students.
