According to MHS Counselor Cherlyn Cabrera, “The purpose of the wellness fair was to encourage awareness of the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.” The mini wellness fair also featured blood pressure reading by the school nurse Carol Paez, body weight scale, presentations from the PSS Food and Nutrition Office, which displayed unhealthy and healthy amounts of sugar and salt in certain products, as well as a display from the Department of Public Health Dental Clinic, showing the effects of chewing tobacco on the teeth and gums, and information on sexually transmitted disease (STDs). MHS Community Council members also passed out free Subway sandwiches, Vitamin Glaceau water and MHS Health and Wellness T-Shirts to students.”I was very pleased with the outcome of this community effort. This event was the second wellness fair we had so far this year and we will be having more soon,” said MHS Community Council president Teresa Kim Tenorio.
