Over 100 kids register for JKPL’s summer reading program

THIS year’s theme for Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is “Oceans of Possibilities.”

The two-week program began on June 7, and will end on June 17, JKPL’s technical services librarian Beth Demapan said.

Over a hundred children have registered for this year’s summer reading program, she added.

The morning session runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for children 6 to 8 years old. Breakfast is provided. The afternoon schedule is from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for children 9 to 12 years old, and lunch is served.

Demapan said the program includes reading books; Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Art activities; reading logs; arts and crafts; computer literacy classes; and listening to guest speakers who will talk about different topics, such as preserving the ocean, protecting natural resources, and much more.

At the end of the two-week program, participants will receive prizes, including gift certificates, books, school supplies, toys, and other items.

“Right after the JKPL reading program, we will send the Bookmobile to underserved communities in the villages to provide them some of the services that are available in the library.”
