Jerty Evan Samson
SAIPAN-BORN Jerty Evan Samson was among the 35 under 35 young professionals recognized by SRQ Magazine in its December 2022 issue for taking leadership roles in their companies and community in Sarasota, Florida.
“It was a proud moment for me since I am the first Asian-Pacific American honoree,” said Samson, the integrated marketing communications officer for Diversified Material Specialists Inc., an international company specializing in fiber optic product design and manufacturing for global markets.
On Saipan, Samson worked for Marianas Variety from 2008 to 2010 as a graphic designer.
Asked about the level of competitiveness in Sarasota, Samson said, “I’d say it’s pretty competitive here but in a friendly and nice way.”
He added, “Sarasota reminds me of Saipan when it comes to having a relaxed and easy-going environment; plus, the beaches. Although I still miss the culture of Saipan and the white sand beach of Managaha.”
Saying he is proud of his Filipino and Saipan roots, Samson reminds the CNMI’s young aspiring professionals: “There are still more things that need to be done in representing the Asian-Pacific American community here in the states.”
“Perseverance,” he said, “is what always pushes me to do many great things at work and in the community. Occasionally, we might feel like we should blend in with people, but always remember that what makes us unique and stand out is our background, our roots, and where we came from. Everyone that I talked to loves the Filipino people and our work ethics, and we should always be proud of it. Additionally, Saipan is a lovely island and has a great culture, and I hope we can further showcase why it is named the most beautiful island in America.”
