Saipan Community School to host annual Christmas band concert today

(SCS) — Saipan Community School invites the community to join us for an evening of festive music at our Annual Christmas Band Concert, taking place today, Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Saipan Community Chapel.

This year’s program promises a memorable celebration of the Christmas season, featuring performances by the Saipan Community School Concert Band, Advanced Band, Flute Choir, Beginning and Intermediate Bands, and the SCS Chorus, joined by special guest musicians and SCS Alumni. Highlights include timeless holiday classics such as Sleigh Ride, Carol of the Bells, and O Holy Night, as well as exciting arrangements like Jingle Bell Jazz and Handel Alla Swing (Hallelujah Chorus).

The event will conclude with a moving rendition of O Come, All Ye Faithful, uniting the chorus, bands, and alumni for a heartwarming finale.

Featured performances include:

• Instant Christmas Concert – arr. by John Edmondson

• A Christmas Canon (Pachelbel Canon/The First Noel) – arr. by Michael Green

• Christmas Across the World – Barry E. Kopetz

• Hallelujah Chorus (Handel Alla Swing) – G.F. Handel, arr. by Jerry Brubaker

This year our goal for Christmas is to reflect on the biblical message of Christmas, inspired by the verse: “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given.” — Isaiah 9:6

Under the direction of SCS Band Director Ruthi Fruit, the students have worked tirelessly to prepare a program that highlights their dedication and growth as musicians. SCS Principal Amanda Dunn expressed her excitement, saying, “I love it when our students pour their hearts into their performances, and especially when our amazing alumni come back to join the band. We all look forward to sharing the joy of Christmas through music with our island community.”

The event is free and open to the public. Families, friends, and community members are encouraged to attend and celebrate the sounds of Christmas together.
