IT’S a staple around the world and nourishes billions of people everyday. For some of us, a meal simply is not complete unless this dish is present. And on Feb. 24, the Northern Marianas Humanities Council invites you to celebrate and share in what makes rice so special across the diverse cultures in the Marianas.
Starting at 6 p.m. from inside the Hyatt Ballroom, the Rice is Life event will host chefs from six different cultural backgrounds to both cook and discuss with the audience what makes their rice dish so special.
Cultures represented at this first event include:
Chamorro
Chinese
Filipino
Nepalese
Japanese
Italian
There will also be main dishes aside from rice.
But this event is about so much more than showcasing the culinary versatility of the island’s favorite grain. At the event, the chefs — from Hyatt, Everest Kitchen, and Panda House Waffles — will share the place these dishes hold in their culture.
You may purchase tickets ($100) by contacting the Humanities Council at 234-4785.
