WHEN you’ve got a work-week mission to stay on track and be productive, the last thing you need is for your lunch to come in and be a distraction.
You need a meal that fills you up and keeps you satisfied, yet doesn’t make you feel like you’re about to KO at your desk from a food coma.
Variety was recently fortunate enough to enjoy two of the Subway Series Wraps that are offered at both the Chalan Piao and Gualo Rai locations: the #42 Homestyle Chicken Salad and the #49 Cali Caprese.
The wraps are enveloped in a pillowy, lavash-style flatbread which was inspired by the cuisine of the Middle East. These soft and bubbly wraps hold more ingredients than a wheat tortilla, meaning Subway can serve you a footlong portion of protein in a six-inch wrap.
The Subway Series Wraps give you four options to enjoy: the #45 Honey Mustard Chicken; #40 Turkey, Bacon, & Avocado; and the two I got to have, the #49 Cali Caprese and #42 Homestyle Chicken Salad.
Let’s start by talking about the wrap that was a pleasant mix of flavor and satisfaction — the #49 Cali Caprese. It features BelGioso fresh mozzarella, smashed avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, MVP Vinaigrette, and Roasted Garlic Aioli.
I found this vegetarian option refreshing and crisp, and that definitely was due to the herby MVP Vinaigrette paired with the cold veggies. We live in the hot tropics, and this wrap was a welcome respite on the scorching, humid day I visited Subway.
I’m sure that a lot of people on Saipan are going to wonder how a vegetarian option can be satisfying, but this wrap kind of does it all. The fresh mozzarella is creamy, salty, and just the right texture — lying decisively between the goldilocks zone of chewy and firm.
And I love the way the Roasted Garlic Aioli and creamy smashed avocado are the umami and creamy base that help the MVP Vinaigrette pop. With the lavash flatbread, all the textures you could want are wrapped together — crispy veggies, chewy mozzarella, creamy avocado, and pillowy wrap.
The #42 Homestyle Chicken Salad is what you should order if you crave the taste of succulent, rotisserie-style chicken. The wrap takes Subway’s Homestyle Chicken Salad and serves it on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions. All those juicy flavors are waiting for you in this chicken salad, which of course mixes in some mayo.
I see this option being really versatile. If you’re in the mood for adding in Peppercorn Ranch, or honey mustard, or throwing in some jalapeños, or whatever your heart desires, the #42 Homestyle Chicken Salad is a blank canvas for your favorite flavors.
What I really want to highlight is that these wraps made me feel the perfect level of satisfaction — not too full that I would feel stuffed to the brim and regretting my lunch choice, yet just full enough that I wouldn’t be distracted by hunger pangs.
I finished half of a #49 Caprese and half of a #42 Homestyle Chicken Salad doing this food review — that’s a complete wrap. Subway got this meal completely right. It’s a lunch option that you can grab, enjoy, and go right back to being productive at work (or school). This feels like a meal option for people who want to eat well, stay satisfied, and keep their day moving.

The best part about the Subway Series Wraps is that they fill you up, but don’t slow you down.
