
(JKPL) — Coming this March, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in partnership with the Office of the Governor, First Lady Wella Foundation, CNMI Women’s Affairs Office, Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, and community partners is proud to celebrate with you CNMI Women’s Month@Your Library!
Starting on Fridays in the month of March, be pampered with a bevy of exciting activities such as: (Friday, March 1) Button Making and Cri-cut Craft Making from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m.; (Friday, March 8) Women’s Self-Defense Class with instructors Mixed Martial Artists Cuki Alvarez and Mariana Alvarez from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.; (March 15) Women’s Night from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; (Friday, March 22) Women’s Art Night with artist extraordinaire instructor Linda Torres; and (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, March 5, 6 and 7) Women’s Cultural Dance Class with Simiyan Marianas’ cultural dance instructors Frances Sablan and April Repeki from 5 p.m.-6 p.m. All events are free, open to the public and will be held at your friendly Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. Registration is required. First registered, first served. A Joeten-Kiyu Public Library card is preferred for all participants.

Women’s Cultural Dance Class: Learn to dance traditional cultural dancing with Cultural Studies Dance Instructors Frances Sablan and April Repeki from Simiyan Marianas at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. This three-day dance workshop is free and will cover cultural dance appreciation and basic dance steps. Take this opportunity to learn more about local Chamorro culture, make friends, and learn a new skill. Seats are limited. Open for women only (teens to adult).

Women’s Self-Defense Class: The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library invites the public for a free Self-Defense class. No experience is necessary. This class will include, cultural, educational, and practical exercises that can be performed to protect against predators. Women’s Self-Defense Class will feature Martial Arts Instructors Cuki Alvarez and Mariana Palacios Alvarez.

Women’s Nigh@ Your Joeten-Kiyu Public Library: The highlight for Women’s Month will be Women’s Night@Your Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. The night will come alive with an amazing selection of vendors, presentations, demos, music, food, and more! From delicious local delicacies and beverages to local crafts and demos from community partners. Cultural classes will be conducted promoting the appreciation and beauty of our native plants, food, and artisans; thereby sharing cultural knowledge to pass onto future generations. Women’s night offers a casual and welcoming atmosphere for women to network, socialize, and build connections.
Women’s Night Activities include the following: Button-Making, Cri-cut Making, Cultural Food, Beauty & Fashion Corner, Community Partner Info booth, Cultural Floral Arrangement, Business Card Making, Music, Food, Drinks, Vendor Booths, and so much more! The following vendors and community partners will be featured: Ya Ya’s Catering, Event Swag Solutions, Pualani Crown, Local Lemonada Girls, Cat’s Creation, the Liberation Day Queen, Youth Congress senators, the Northern Marianas College Nursing Club and many more. Special cultural instructors from Rota will be presenting a cultural flower arrangement for the community highlighting our native plants and promoting sustainability. Raffle prizes and coupons from vendors will be given to the first 75 participants.

Women’s Art Night: Come paint with us! The public is invited to a night of painting in celebration of women featuring local artist Linda Torres. Supplies are provided.
