A ‘green’ beautician

Despite her hectic schedule  at the ASKS Fashion and Salon in Garapan, she still finds time to participate in environment friendly programs.

Sharmaine Casquero said she enjoys participating in “green” awareness programs.

“I hope my involvement will help send a message to the people that we should care about our surroundings,” she added.

“I want to set a good example so the next generation will also continue to take care of this lovely island.”

Casquero recently conducted a seminar for children about the environment at the multi-purpose center.

Last month, the CNMI Division on Environmental Quality presented Casquero with an “Environmental Award” in recognition of her valuable contributions and participation in the 2011 Environmental Awareness Month Trash-In-Fashion Show held on April 14, 2011 at  American Memorial Park.

The certificate was personally delivered to her by Olivia Tebuteb, and Leilani Deleon Guerrero, the Trash-In-Fashion Show committee chairwomen.

“I consider this award very valuable,” Casquero said as she thanked DEQ and other environment advocates for acknowledging her involvement.

Casquero choreographed the show and helped design the stage using various recycled materials.

Casquero is determined to be more active in the campaign for the preservation of the environment.

“After I received this award I told myself I have to work harder and focus more on the environment,” she said.

“What will happen to our world if we continue to disrespect our surroundings?”

Casquero participated in the 2009 in the Beautify CNMI Miss Earth Diva Pageant and received the environmental steward award.

Next year, organizers will revive the competition. “I am ready to join to continue promoting my cause,” she said.
