Those who wish to take courses at NMC must take the math and English placement tests. Registration for NMC’s Fall 2010 semester is still ongoing until Friday, Aug. 20, (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.). Late registration is on Saturday, Aug. 21 (9 a.m. – 12 noon).
There is a $25 fee for each placement test that must be paid in advance at the NMC cashier (M-F, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.). No one will be allowed into the testing room without proof of payment (a receipt for the placement test fee, or the NMC application fee). Payment for the application fee will cover the English placement test fee.
Test takers must bring a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport or school ID) and pencils. No admittance to the testing room will be allowed after the starting time.
Calculators may be used when taking the math placement test. NMC students are not allowed to take the math placement test more than once. The only exception to this condition is for NMC students who have NOT taken a math class within one year of taking the math placement test.

Veterans town hall meeting on Friday
(Office of the CNMI Congressional Delegate) — Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan confirms that officials from the Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Honolulu have accepted his invitation to speak to local veterans on health care and benefits.
“Together with Ruth Coleman from the Office of Military Liaison and Veteran’s Affairs and other veterans groups in the CNMI, we are pleased to announce this opportunity for our local veterans to hear directly from VA officials,” said Sablan.
Dr. James E. Hastings, director of the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System, will be on hand to provide information on VA health initiatives in the region.
“We are very grateful that Dr. Hastings has rearranged his schedule in order to make it to this event. His efforts reflect the importance of CNMI veterans to the VA and I encourage all our veterans to take advantage of this opportunity to voice their questions and concerns,” Sablan said.
The veterans town hall meeting on Friday, Aug. 20, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hon. Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
Red flag at 2 Rota sites
(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality says water samples collected from Kokomo Beach and Mobile Storm Drainage contained excessive concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria that exceeded the CNMI’s marine water quality standards.
DEQ has given the locations a red flag and advises the public not to fish or swim within 300 feet of the locations for the next 48 hours or until otherwise notified.
Chacha school orientation
(COJHS) — This is to inform all parents, guardians and the community that Chacha Ocean View Jr. High School will be having an orientation for sixth grade students on Sept. 2, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., in the cafeteria.
For the 7th and 8th grade students, the orientation will be on Sept. 3, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Delta launches first airline social media ‘ticket window’
ATLANTA (Delta Air Lines) — Delta Air Lines launched the industry’s first social media “Ticket Window” enabling bookings directly from its Facebook page and other social media sites.
Delta’s Ticket Window allows any of Facebook’s 500 million users to complete a full travel booking using a dedicated “tab” at facebook.com/delta without navigating to delta.com.
Delta plans to expand its Ticket Window to other sites, including online banner ads to allow full booking capabilities within the airline’s advertisements.
