Bangladesh community celebrates New Year

The number of revelers from the Bangladeshi community noticeably declined compared to the previous years when the economy was not as bad as it is now, but the fervor and gaiety of those who showed up remained undiminished.

Bangladeshi women and children, and some men, wore their traditional attires and took part in the special programs.

“I hope this event will always bring prosperity and joy to every family even in this challenging time,” said Manzurul Alam who joined  the festivity with his family.

Muhammad Ishaque said he wanted to celebrate the Bangladeshi New Year with friends.

Rakibul “Mintu” Islam, the Bangladesh Community Association in Saipan president, expressed his appreciation to other ethnic groups for making their celebration successful.

Jun Concillado, vice president of the United Workers Movement, joined the party with his family.

“I wanted to know how my friends celebrate their New Year,” he said.

Muhammad Zahidul Islam, Saipan Muslim Community president, hoped that the Bangladeshis on Rota and Tinian also celebrated the event.

At the Garapan Central Park, the program was highlighted with a cultural dance presentation of the Syed sisters, a song and dance number performed by Filipino youths, the magic of Prinze, a video show presentation, and a quiz for children and adults.
