Cash for College workshop on June 19

In addition, Jackie Nguyen, the disabled veterans outreach program coordinator, will be here on June 22. Her purpose is to provide direct employment and training-related activities and support service to meet the needs of economically or educationally disadvantaged veterans with barriers to employment.

They will also be entertaining questions and assist veterans with their claims. Date, time and place of the briefing are as follows:

• June 22, 0900 to 1500, with Jackie Nguyen at the Office of Military Veterans Affairs on Capital Hill, Building 1364

• June 24-25, 0900 to 1500, Veterans Benefits with David Larsen

• June 26, 0800 to 1600 at the Army Reserve Center, Education Fair

Cash for College workshop on June 19

(NMC) — Northern Marianas College will be hosting its 3rd “Cash for College” workshop aimed at helping students obtain financial assistance for college.  The workshop is made possible by the financial support of the U.S. Department of Education’s College’s Access Challenge Grant Program.

Workshop attendees will receive personal assistance and guidance in completing financial aid forms for the CNMI Scholarship, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid, and other scholarships.

NMC staff from the Office of Admissions and Records will also be present to assist new students with the enrollment and application process.

“We are inviting interested individuals to take advantage of our services during the NMC “Cash for College” workshop,” said NMC interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera.  “The purpose of this workshop is to assist students in their efforts to obtain much needed financial aid for college and to encourage students to pursue higher education.”

The free workshop will be held on June 19 at the As Terlaje campus in Building A.  Participants can stop by at anytime between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants are highly encouraged to bring a valid identification card, tax forms, proof of residency for 2008 and 2009, a proof of continuing residency, and an official high school transcript.

Energy Division advisory

EFFECTIVE immediately and until further notice, this is to inform the public that the CNMI Energy Division Office will no longer accept rebate applications as the availability of appliance rebate vouchers allotted for the program has officially run out under the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands – State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program.

Autism Society meeting

THE Autism Society of the CNMI will be holding its monthly meeting on Saturday, June 19, at 10 a.m., in the NMPASI conference room.  Information regarding the group and future meetings will be available at this meeting.

Muna on Marianas Agupa

COMMONWEALTH Utilities Corp. Executive Director Antonio Muna will be on Marianas Agupa this Saturday June 19, to discuss the power situation facing the commonwealth today and the new utility rates. The show starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. on Magic 100.3 FM.

The Chamorro talk show program is hosted by Glenn H. Manglona with a special guest host, former Rota Mayor Joseph S. Inos. The talks how airs every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.

THE Memorial Service Association of Korea is planning to visit the CNMI for its 33rd annual memorial service on June 26.

Kagman groundbreaking

AS part of President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Natural Resources Conservation Service  and the CNMI Department of Lands and Natural Resources will celebrate the ARRA Kagman watershed project groundbreaking on June 24 at 10 a.m. at the corner of Kagman and Chacha roads next to the Santa Soledad church.
