Commerce, SBDC to conduct 5 business workshops

The workshops are one of many that SBDC, in partnership with Commerce and Commonwealth Development Authority, plans to bring to the public.

“Gaining a competitive edge is often linked to grabbing a hold of new information or reviewing what you might have known.  This high quality training, open to the public and free as it’s partially funded by a USDA Rural Development grant, will certainly be worth your investment of time,” stated Gary Liddle, SBDC director.

The workshops will be conducted by Denise Mendiola Hertslet, the executive director of the Pacific Islands Microcredit Institute that administers the first and only microcredit loan program on Guam.

NMC fall registration begins today

(NMC) — Those interested in enrolling in Northern Marianas College’s Fall 2010 semester can register for classes beginning today, Aug. 16. Registration will continue through Aug. 21.

The college offers several degree and certificate programs, including bachelor of science degrees in elementary education, associate degrees in business, business administration (emphasis on accounting, business management, or computer applications), liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and hospitality management. Moreover, it offers short-term certificate programs in different vocational, academic, and professional areas.

New students are required to take the English and math placement tests before they register. After taking the placement tests, students can obtain the required slip from the English and Math departments and meet with their academic advisors. NMC academic advisors will help new students fill in registration forms and create class schedules. Students can then finish the registration process in NMC’s Room D-1.

Application for admissions will still be accepted until the last day of Registration on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, provided that both placement tests have been taken. Note the following dates below:

• Aug. 16-20 – Fall Regular Registration for ALL Students (9am – 6pm)

• Aug. 20 – Student Orientation for New Students at 9am – 3:30pm in the NMC Library (Building O)

• Aug. 21 – Late Registration (9am – 12pm)

• Aug. 23 – First Day of Fall Classes

• Aug. 23 – Student Orientation for International & Evening Students at 5pm – 8pm in the NMC Library (Building O)

• Aug. 19 – 10am – 12pm (A-5)

Ongoing students must clear any outstanding balances at the Finance Office, the Library, or the Curriculum Resource Center before they can register for classes. To find out if any balances exist, students can visit the Office of Admissions and Records.

Boy Scouts meeting on Aug. 19

THE district chairman of the CNMI Boy Scouts of America Program, Jesus C. Muna, would like to inform all CNMI Boy Scout leaders that there will be an organizational meeting on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at the scout office located north of Garapan Elementary School, MIHA Housing Unit A-14.

The agenda will include the introduction of new members, report by the respective committees, camp promotions and activities, finance, and the island director’s report. Adults interested in serving youth through Boy Scouting are also invited to attend this important meeting.

NMC Presidential Search Committee extends application deadline

(NMC) — The Northern Marianas College Presidential Search Committee has announced that it has extended the deadline for accepting applications for NMC president. The new deadline is Aug. 31, 2010.
