Dandan Neighborhood Watch and Village Revitalization Team marks 2nd year of community service

Its block captain and team association president Frank B. Camacho said since their group’s inception they have been maintaining the Dandan Children’s Park and the roadsides throughout the village every Saturday.

This year, on July 20,  he said they submitted their application as a not-for-profit corporation  to the Department of Commerce.

On Aug. 1, the application was approved.

The group is now named  Dandan Village Civic Action Association.

“This will allow us to conduct, among other things, fundraising activities to fund the expansion of the park’s facilities,” Camacho said.

The first two fundraising activities will take place in the next few weeks.  Residents of Dandan are encouraged to join the association.

In observing their second anniversary, Camacho expressed his appreciation to individuals and businesses who have contributed to the success of their team. They are Joseph Torres, proprietor/general manager of Torres Refrigeration, Justice Ken Govendo, Eric A. Cruz, proprietor/general manager of Ericco, Marianas Housing Corporation Executive Director Josh Sasamoto and his staff members as well as the NMHC board for the grant awarded to rehabilitate the Dandan Children’s Park.

Camacho also thanked other individuals and businesses that have provided the team with beverages during the cleanup campaign every Saturday.

He thanked the residents of Dandan and those who visit the village and have expressed appreciation for the efforts to keep the village clean, safe and vibrant.

“They are our source of energy that allows us to continue what we are doing,” he said.

The team members also lauded their  spouses and children who provide the encouragement “every Saturday morning before we set off to ‘work’ and welcome us back in our soiled and tattered work clothes.”

The team has new members: Gus C. Aguon, his son and brother Carlos Aguon and Joe C. Aguon, Rose C. White, the association secretary, brothers Walter Santos and Julian Sablan, Benny C. Sablan, Tom S. Castro, and Ellery Cruz.

Camacho said the restoration of the Dandan Children’s Park is being undertaken and is expected to be completed  on Aug. 31.

He thanked Jerry Tan of Tan Holdings for his monetary contribution to the team.

“Our children will finally have a place for fun and enjoyment,” Camacho said.

“We are pleading for the cooperation of our residents and guests to help us maintain a clean, safe and healthy village.  When visiting the park, please help us in keeping it litter- and graffiti-free.  The park is ours:  residents and visitors alike,” he added.
