Free health screening for Filipino workers

(Philippine Consulate General) — The Philippine Consulate General is pleased to announce the 4th quarter 2010 free health screening this coming Sunday, Dec. 5, on the ground floor of the Marianas Business Plaza Building in Susupe.

Registration is from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and the actual conduct of the activity will start at 8 a.m. and end at 12 noon.

This free health screening program by the Philippine Consulate General, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is done in cooperation with the Filipino Volunteer Medical Team, the CNMI Pharmacist Association and Hardt Eye Clinic.

The medical services include blood pressure, blood sugar, and eye-vision check-ups.

Filipino workers who are availing of blood sugar level check-up must refrain from taking solid and liquid food from 12 midnight to actual testing.

Last  year, a total of 1,601 Filipino workers benefited from the health screening program, of whom 1,228 availed of the blood pressure and blood sugar check-ups, while 373 availed of the eye-vision check-up.

Also during the last three quarters of 2010, a total of 1,168 availed of the medical services.

This program is being conducted to increase the level of awareness on diabetes prevention and control, hypertension prevention and eye/vision pressure correction among the Filipino workers.

Through this project, the Philippine Consulate General hopes to reach more and serve, even if in a modest way, the medical needs, while fostering the spirit of volunteerism in the true spirit of Filipino “bayanihan,” community unity, on Saipan.
