‘Health Impact’ draws residents

Dr. Ken Pierson, Seventh-day Adventist Clinic director and coordinator of Health Impact, said the series of free health lectures conducted by Dr. Edwin Supit, a graduate of Loma Linda University and a specialist in internal medicine, emphasized  prevention of chronic and lifestyle diseases.

It promoted lifestyle changes rather than medicines or pills, Pierson said.

“People should understand that lifestyle changes will lead to a dramatic difference in one’s health. You can reduce the amount of medication if you change your lifestyle which is also more beneficial in the long term,” he said.

The free health screening included blood sugar and blood pressure checks, vision and dental checks and health counseling.

“We have a good turnout of participants,” Pierson said.

Liza Tamba, 46, a resident of Gualo Rai, availed of the free health services with her family members and friends.

“We are very thankful for the health services they offered,” she said.

Pierson said they’re pleased with the “good response and we’re happy that a lot of people came.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church and Clinic, which sponsored the event, would be happy to conduct the program on a regular basis, he added.

He thanked all the volunteers, including Pastor Carlos Sotomayor and Pastor Keith Phillips, an international speaker and author, for Health Impact and the Bible prophecy seminar.

The other volunteers from the SDA Clinic were Drs. Crystal Pierson, Sarah Jane Shearer, William Shearer and Mike Stafford for the dental examination.

Pierson also assisted in the dental checkup.

Volunteers for the vision and eye checkup were Eric Mahinay and Amor Zapata from Hardt Eye Clinic.

For the blood pressure and blood sugar check, the volunteers were Elsie Ringor, Jho Lacorte, Maryle Allen, Wanda Sotomayor, and Mirasol Jotanovic.

The reception center was administered by Ronie Ringor, Kathleen Serrano, Romy Sumalnap, Norbe Lahoylahoy and Vic Vic Gahol.
