Lions, Filcom extend community service

“The facility was deteriorating and needed immediate repairs,” said Rudy Santos, the club’s outgoing president,

In cooperation with the Filipino Community, the Lions Club initiated the repair.

They changed the basketball board and installed new ball rings. They also repaired and replaced some damaged benches which they cleaned with a water blast before repainting them.

Santos said it took them one week to complete the “facelift” of the facility which was then turned over to the Division of Parks and Recreation of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Filcom and the Saipan Marianas Lions Club provided their own manpower for the project.

Santos thanked Filcom for offering $2,000 for the project’s implementation.

It was not the first time that these groups have initiated community services.

Santos said they also conduct regular cleanup drives and maintenance. “We clean the children’s park in Dandan,” he added.

They also maintain the lion’s head landmark at the intersection of Capital Hill and Kagman.

Under the leadership of new president Tony Soriano, the Saipan Marianas Lions Club will continue to serve the community, Santos said.
