Manamko’ go high-tech at Aging Center

Just recently, some of them completed a computer class where they learned basic computer training and networking.

Since the center began offering the computer class, certified computer instructor Sinchy Kapwich said they have had over 80 graduates, and these continue to upgrade their computer skills.

Last month, Ana Walcatatsa, Benita Cepeda, Nancy Lee Nannay and Eufenia Iiod completed basic computer traning while Maryalen Conrad, Mila Warin and Rosario Ibanes graduated from the networking course.

Kapwich said they are expecting more students now that the center has acquired new computers.

It was during the leadership of Frank Reyes on the Senior Advisory Council that the manamko’ were able to generate sufficient revenue through fundraising events.

Walter Manglona, the center’s program coordinator, said the administration of Reyes donated three new computers and recreational equipment for the manamko’.

Manglona said the center also has a new keyboard, a pool table and karaoke entertainment.

“We are hoping the new council will continue to raise funds to supply the needs of the center,” he said.

With the new computers, Manglona said the manamko’ have opened Facebook and other social networking accounts.

They even use the computer to record their activities at the center.

Through the Internet, Manglona said, the manamko’ can now access  doctors for online consultations.

“They can also research about important subjects,” he added.

Kapwich said the manamko’ are learning how to express themselves in writing through the use of a computer.

The students of the computer class finished the course by writing their autobiographies, he added.
